Largs has been celebrating its Viking history and the Battle of Largs with a Viking Festival since the 1980s.
The name Largs is derived from the Gaelic word 'Learg' meaning 'grassy slope'. Wemyss Bay is set at the top of the 'learg', giving it fantastic views!
Livingstone's Bar & Grill is named after the 19th Century explorer David Livingstone, whose travels were funded by once owner of the former Kelly estate at Wemyss Bay, Dr James Young.
Largs was home to Sir Thomas Brisbane, whom Brisbane, Australia is named after. A great soldier and Governor of New South Wales, his name is featured throughout Largs in memory of his heritage.
